stories
Ha-In, 16

Ha-in was a profoundly smart student who needed the extra bump to secure the mark for his IB exams. While he had excellent and complex ideas, English was his second language which made it tough for him to express himself fluently.
By reviewing new media every week, Ha-in was able to approach writing about new topics in a variety of communication styles. We shared film, stories, and music with each other weekly; he wrote music reviews and even translated and interpreted Korean songs into English. Meanwhile, detailed essay editing taught him how to choose accurate words and phrases to deliver his brilliant ideas effectively.

Ming Yong, 14

Ming Yong, an incredibly studious and gifted child (a chess, prodigy too!) had difficulties in understanding Literature, especially Shakespeare. While his linguistic fundamentals were strong, writing essays posed a great challenge to him.
To improve his comprehension of Shakespeare, we watched theatrical plays and films to bring these archaic worlds to life. Additionally, teaching him research skills and encouraging conceptual thinking expanded his thought process, allowing him to confidently put his thoughts into written word.

Una, 16

Una came to us having not qualified to even take up English Literature. What Una had, however, beyond his smarts, were his creative writing skills and an exceptional desire to learn. This was all we needed to turn his results into an A-grade.
Besides diary writing to get him into the habit of introspection and longer sentence structure, we ran through exam techniques to help maximise his marks even in situations where he found it hard to answer inference-based questions. Through more reading and building on his sensitivities, the papers soon became a breeze for him.
